Project Jhola (Bag)

What is Project Jhola (Bag)?
Project Jhola, A bag for every child in Nepal is the distribution of school bag to the marginalized school going children from far-flung remote places of Nepal. As the school system remains plagued by high dropout rates, the absence record of students is high. Hence, to promote the importance of education, school bags are provided as a tool of motivation for them. The project was initiated by Solidarity Nepal, A non-profitable and social welfare organization aiming to establish and implement sustainable education, health, drinking water and community development programs in the rural areas of Nepal and supported by the worldwide members & volunteers of Solidarity International, an international philanthropic organization based in Nepal with large network of members and volunteers worldwide. We, the team of Solidarity International, has been collecting funds from individual sponsors to run this project. In 2019, we have planned to distribute bags to 1000 children from different remote districts of all 7 provinces of Nepal.

How does the project run?
This project is currently operational based on an individual donor. One individual can sponsor a bag for one child by donating Nrs. 500 (USD 4.54) to our organization. For those, who donate Nrs 5000 (USD 45.39) or more are granted lifetime membership of our organization. Project HOPE : Education for Nepal

Solidarity International Project HOPE

Investing in education is the single most effective means of reducing poverty.

Education is a key need, along with other basics, in today’s world for anyone, anywhere to have a good quality of life. In developing countries like Nepal, basic education is crucial to alleviating poverty, reducing inequality and driving economic growth.

Quality of education in Nepal is generally poor, characterized by high drop-out rates, lack of child- and girl-friendly facilities and child-centered learning environments. Nepal is home to 26.6 million people, with children younger than 15 years old making up more than 40% of the population. More than one in three people in Nepal live in extreme poverty, subsisting on less than $1 per day.

Education has given many of us the opportunities to lead a better quality life and attain our goals. However, for thousands of Nepalese children, education remains a distant dream due to poverty, caste, gender discrimination and lack of access to schools. The quality education remains the most important tool towards the realization of rights of all children.

Why Project HOPE?

This project offers educational scholarship, uniforms, stationery materials and resolve their basic & genuine human rights issues. It is associated with increasing the living and educational standards of underprivileged, earthquake victims and Dalit so called untouchable children’s in rural areas of Nepal.

Education is one of the most important investments a country can make in its people, its future and is critical to reducing poverty and inequality. Education plays a decisive role in a child’s development. Project Hope helps to improve participation of children, their parents and the community in education planning, improve learning levels and reduce dropout rates of children.

Project “HOPE”:

Project “HOPE” is a literacy program initiated by Solidarity Nepal, A registered non-profitable and social welfare organization dedicated for Social Transformation in Nepal and Sponsored by Solidarity International,  the global coalition against poverty and inequality, with a goal to provide Full Educational Scholarship to needy students of various districts of Nepal to support more than 1000 school going children every year.

Besides this project also helps to improve participation of children, their parents and the community in education planning, improve learning levels and reduce dropout rates.

The goal of this project is to assist all the needy students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them educational scholarships.

With the support of local and international sponsor, we want to provide educational scholarship to the needy students of different community based schools in remote villages of Nepal. In this way, we hope to improve their communication skills & improve literacy rate in Nepal.

Why Scholarships for the students of community based schools in Nepal?

Community based schools in Nepal are generally financed by local people and get little assistance from government to run the school. The majority of the students studying the community based schools are from backward and poor family who cannot afford abundantly for their education. The parents with good income teach their children in private and boarding schools in Nepal. So, we focus to help the public run school with the HOPE project.

About the project site:

Solidarity Nepal initiated this project to improve literacy rates in Nepal and to support National Literacy Campaign (NLC) launched by Government of Nepal.

“Project Hope” means 1 Donor – 1 Child Sponsorship Program to support more than 1000 underprivileged, earthquake victims and Dalit so called untouchable children’s in remote districts of Nepal each year.

Through the success of our pilot phase program conducted at Shree Dumshijhang Lower Secondary School – Dolakha, Shree Dhaulagiri Primary School – Baglung and Shree Indrachowk Primary School – Gulmi, we are confident to meet the campaign target as this program is highly recognized, participated and supported by medias, individual donors and local people. The “Hope Project’s” aim is to connect One Child with One Donor having a common motto “Changing Lives, One Child at a Time.”
